Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Ketamine is a dissociative anesthetic with psychedelic effects that has been shown to be clinically effective and safe for the treatment of depression and other psychiatric conditions, as a tool to augment psychotherapy. Ketamine produces a temporal altered state of consciousness, including changes in perception, feelings and/or thoughts, which may be extremely useful for psychotherapeutic processes in an adequate setting.

In our ketamine programs we offer a combination of ketamine infusions and integration therapy. KAP is offered for those who are referred by their regular therapists or who request on their own for an assessment. Our ketamine program lasts for 2-3 months, and involves preparatory, administration and integration sessions. Treatment sessions may vary depending on the treated condition and individual variability. During the treatment you will be accompanied by our caring team, who will make sure you have the best set and setting prepared for you. Experiential sessions will be followed by psychotherapy sessions that will help you process and integrate the experience and determine the next steps in your treatment. In Delos, we believe preparation and integration are essential for a successful ketamine treatment.

Steps: Evaluation, Preparation, Ketamine administration, Integration, Follow-up

  • Evaluation: Our team will evaluate your case and indications for the ketamine program and will answer all your possible questions. An anesthetic evaluation will also take place to make sure this treatment is safe for you.
  • Preparation: We will schedule sessions to prepare yourself for the experience and create a trusting relationship with your therapist. Our purpose is to set the basis for a successful treatment.
  • Ketamine administration: During these sessions you will experience an altered state of consciousness, while you are accompanied by our caring team in a safe and comfortable space.
  • Integration: Your therapist will help you process and integrate each experiential session and guide you through the therapeutic process to make the most of the experience.
  • Follow-up: After your treatment we will continue offering you support and additional therapeutic care for as long as you need it.

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an integrative psychotherapy that was developed by Francine Shapiro for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), among other conditions.

Currently, EMDR therapy is recommended by different international organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and is indicated in various clinical guidelines as one of the first treatment options for PTSD and traumatic events, including any situation of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual) and lack of care (emotional or physical). EMDR therapy is an eclectic and integrative therapy designed to alleviate distress associated with traumatic memories and negative life events. The goal is to access memories and apply a type of bilateral stimulation to promote adaptive processing of these experiences. In recent years, its use has been extended to problems such as phobias and anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, somatic diseases, addictions, bereavement, etc.

In Delos, we have certified psychologists in this therapy, and we apply standardized and scientifically validated protocols.

Integration therapy

A psychedelic experience can be both beautiful and overwhelming, frequently evoking deep and emotional processes. Sometimes, they can also be challenging. Integration therapy refers to a modality of psychotherapy that is developed to help give meaning to such intense experiences, and harness their potential to enhance the psychotherapeutic process. The integration of psychedelic experiences can provide a better ground for reaching the greatest healing potential of these substances, striving to bring into everyday life what has been experienced or learned during a psychedelic session. We offer integration services for those who have recently experienced psychedelic substances on their own (or other techniques inducing non-ordinary state of consciousness).

Psychological Therapies

Internal Family System (IFS) Therapy: IFS therapy is an internal model of psychotherapy developed by Richard C. Schwartz indicated for the treatment of a wide variety of problems (anxiety, self-esteem, depression, isolation, personal growth) and trauma. IFS therapy understands that people are complex systems composed of an "I" or "Self" and multiple "parts" that interact with each other. Some of our parts suffer and others protect us from pain and all of this happens without us realizing. Our emotional states change from feeling happy and satisfied to being anxious, depressed, frustrated or confused and we don't know why. IFS therapy allows accessing the SELF and connecting, exploring and healing the problematic parts, allowing people to change through the application of work protocols focused on the internal dialogue with the parts.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy: EMDR therapy is an integrative psychotherapy for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic events, including any situation of abuse (emotional, physical, sexual) and lack of care (emotional or physical). The goal is to access memories and apply a type of bilateral stimulation to promote adaptive processing of these experiences.

Mindfulness: Mindfulness is a meditation technique with a long history that in recent years has been incorporated into various models of psychotherapy. Mindfulness involves focusing attention on the experience of the present moment, accepting it as it is, without judgment, without expectations and without preconceived ideas. This seems so simple, but is at the same time complex and requires specific training and daily practice. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective in addressing stress-related to both somatic and mental disorders. Progressively, many psychotherapists have increased their interest in this technique to the point of integrating it into other formats as one of the components of treatment programs, such as cognitive behavioral therapy with integrated mindfulness.
